360Flex 2012 – Call for papers hasn’t closed!

I just wanted to make sure everyone knows for sure. The Call For Papers. HAS NOT closed. It’ll likely close mid November. Got an idea or three? Submit them now!

There’s no limit to what you can submit so if there’s something you want to talk about submit it.

Our basic rules for submissions are simple.

  1. What are you most passionate about in Flex/AIR/AS?
  2. What do you think other devs need to know?
  3. What are you uniquely qualified to talk about present?
If any of those things sparks an idea, then submit it. There’s no specific theme for 360|Flex 2012. Mobile will still be a big part for sure, but not the theme this time. Working on components? submit that. Working on some hard core AS3 stuff? Submit that.
All that said, go submit your presentation topic now! Waiting insures one thing. You’ll forget and then send me sad emails and tweets begging to be allowed to submit :) Let’s avoid that if possible. :)

360Flex 2011 – Speaker Chat Recordings

We’re just 1 week away from 360|Flex 2011. If you’re not excited, maybe you’re not paying attention ;) Just Sayin’

If you’ve been following along, we’ve been doing Speaker Chats the last few weeks, and most (sorry, some you had to be there for) were recorded. For posterity, here’s links to all the recorded chats. Enjoy!

It’s not too late to register for 360|Flex 2011. Speaker Michael Labriola said it best. Go register!

360Flex – Speaker Samer Sadek

This 360|Flex will be Samer’s first time presenting and we’re happy to have him. It’s always great to have new people in the community step up to present. Whether new to presenting or simply new to presenting at 360|Flex, it’s always fun to meet new people who’ve decided to share what they know with the community.

Q: How long have you been working with Flex?

A: 3 years

Q: What do you like most about Flex?

A: Flex allows us to easily create a rich presentation layer to our applications.  The Flex framework provides the components to build stateful clients that enhance the user experience.  Also the fact that Flex communicates easily with ColdFusion is a big plus for me.

Couldn’t agree more! The CF to Flex integration is killer! Obviously both being Adobe helps, but anyone looking to start from scratch, go CF and Flex, you won’t be sorry!!

Q: What 1 session are you most excited about seeing at 360|Flex DC?

A: If I had to choose just one, it would be Michael Labriola’s talk, “Flex 4 Components from the Firehose.”

Mike Never disappoints. It’s always amazing to see him present. He’s one of the most knowledgable developers I know, plus he’s an all around awesome guy!

Q:What about 360|Flex DC are you most excited about?

A: The fact that it is in DC.  Flex is a big resource for the government, and this will be a chance to shine a spotlight on the Flex community in this area and the work they are doing.

We’re really excited about being in DC and coming to the east coast finally. It’s gonna be an awesome event, the best the east coast has seen, just wait and see!

Q: Do you prefer ninjas or robots?

A: I know this is my setup to say something funny and witty, but I have nothing.

Robots don’t laugh, so it’s ok.

Q: What is one thing you’d like to see improved in the Flex Framework?

A: Flex 4 and Flash Builder fulfilled most of my wishes. I guess a faster compiler would be nice. If this would include AIR, it would allow for a better offline/online synchronization process.

Off/online sync would be awesome if improved! It’s nice now, but there’s so much room for improvement, and that’s such an awesome and powerful feature!

Q: Is there someone you’re hoping to see at 360|Flex DC?

A: Everybody from our Capital Area Flex User Group

Awesome! Hope to see them there!

Q: Lastly, what would you tell someone who was on the fence or hadn’t heard (I know, they’re out there though) of 360|Flex to get them to come?

A: You should.  The sessions levels vary from intro to expert, so you will learn a lot. 360|Flex is a great opportunity to mingle with other developers from all levels, find out where the technology is going, and learn about what is the latest and greatest in the Flex world.

Well said! You can’t get this kind of stuff anywhere else. Sure you can get some of it somewhere, but you’ll never get this collection of sessions from this collection of community experts, ANYWHERE. Register now, don’t miss this 1 of a kind east coast event!

360Flex – The Hotel and group rate!

For those that have been to a 360|Flex in San Jose, you know that there’s not much near eBay Town Hall. It’s an awesome space, but surrounded by other office parks.

Normally everyone has to stay at one of the two hotels nearby then walk, light rail or drive over.

Screen shot 2009-11-24 at 4.37.34 PMThis time we’re trying something different. We’re going to be staying downtown (near bars that stay open past 8!), at the Downtown San Jose Marriott

There’s an awesome bar on site, and a great restaurant, and it’s right on the VTA line so you can come and go to the conference.

But wait I’m not done :)

The Marriott has agreed to provide a shuttle loop in the morning and evening for an hour each time to shuttle everyone back and forth Monday – Wednesday. Just be outside ready to go during that hour, and you’ll be on your way to eBay Town Hall.

Also, every attendee staying at the Marriott will get free internet in their guest room. Just in case you have to work when you’re not partying with us :)

We think this will make the hours between sunset and sunrise much more interesting for everyone. Party with us at eBay then when that’s done, we can party all over downtown San Jose!

The room rate is an awesome $99/night

Book your room now! The room block isn’t huge. If you stay somewhere else, you’re on your own to get back and forth to eBay.

You can call 800.228.9290 to book your room!

While you’re at it, you should make sure to register, 360|Flex San Jose sells out, don’t miss it! Register now!

RIAdventure 360 Cruise – Just keeps getting better!

We’ve got a last minute line up change, sadly Ted won’t be able to make it.

BUT

we’ve got an incredible replacement! Greg Burch, from the Adobe Mobile team. You know the guys working on cool things like the Flex Mobile framework, Flash and iPhone stuff.

Yeah the mobile aspect of Adobe RIA on the cruise just went through the roof!! Don’t worry, we won’t be neglecting the rest of the RIA space. How could we with the likes and Ryan Stewart! Doug McCune, Sam Rivello, and Faisal Abid

Oh and in case you haven’t checked the tentative schedule, Faisal’s gonna be talking mobile too :)

This cruise will be something you’re gonna regret missing. If the conversations in hallways at conferences like 360|Flex, CFUnited, MAX, etc are something you enjoy and geek out on, well this will be almost two weeks of 100% hallways, conversation, geeking out, with a tropical paradise as the backdrop!

Register now, time’s running out, and boat is filling up.
