360F|ex 2012 – Killer Adobe Sessions

We mentioned the Adobe sessions previously but they were largely “TBA”

Well in case you hadn’t seen the schedule, they’ve been Announced.

The monday opening keynote will be delivered by Christophe Coenraets and Alex Harui. Adobe keynotes are always cool. We see what’s coming, sometimes we get to be in a launch event. Since we’re all fairly sure we know what’s coming Flex-wise from Adobe, just imagine what they’ll have to show… hhmmmm

Right after the keynote on Monday Christophe will be delivering “Cross-Platform Mobile Apps with HTML, JavaScript and PhoneGap” which is sure to be a popular session. Christophe is known for eschewing light fluffy stuff and going deep in the tech. You’ve been warned.

Also on Monday, Andy Trice will be talking about “Data Visualization for Web Standards”

Tuesday Brian Rinaldi will be talking about “ Mapping Out the Frontier of HTML5 & JavaScript Development” while at the same time Andy Trice will be presenting “Multi-device Deployment Best Practices”.

Wednesday we’ve got Michelle Yaiser presenting “Learn the DI Magic, Eat Lunch with the Cool Kids” at the same time Alan Greenblat will be presenting “TBA”, yeah it wouldn’t be a 360|Flex without at least one TBA session this close to the conference.

We end the conference with Michelle and Michael Labriola presenting a hands-on, audience participation, possibly drinking game, of human virtual machine.

Time’s running out. Our room block at the hotel closes the 29th, and tickets are moving fast, better get yours. Register Now!

360Flex 2012 – The Click – Women’s breakfast

Join Mollie Rusher of On3 and Nicole Wilker of 360|Conferences as they host “The Click” breakfast on Tuesday morning. This women-only event (sorry guys) started at 360|Flex 2011 and is an awesome way for women attendees to enjoy each other’s company away from the hustle and bustle of the conference itself, and get to know each other. It’s a great way to talk about things that matter to women attendees, in a setting that encourages communication.

Having more women at tech conferences is a big deal. If you looked at the attendance of tech conferences, you’d think women simply weren’t participating in high tech jobs, but that’s not the case (though they’re definitely in the minority overall, sadly). Of course we could do things like offer free passes to women who make videos begging… sorry explaining why they deserve to come but frankly we don’t run a night club, and it’s not ladies night. Women are the equals of men in our industry and using them as lures of men and other women is not how we do things.

That means, things like “The Click” are really important to us, to make sure that 1. women feel welcome at tech conferences and 2. we can encourage women attendees to help us find real solutions, and offer real ideas to encourage women to attend.

Oh yeah and Mollie is bringing some prizes to hand out during the breakfast, as if hanging with other geek girls wasn’t enough of a reward.

Join our awesome women attendees at 360|Flex 2012. Register now. Already attending.. and  a woman? :) RSVP for the breakfast here.

360Flex 2012 – Lots of awesome lined up

You know what’s in 26 days?

360|Flex 2012 is. We’re on track to (yet again) be the biggest Flex/AIR event of the year. ok fine, yeah MAX is bigger, but I’m talking about the indie events :) Anyhow…

in 26 days we’ll have:

  • 4 hands on training classes. 2 paid and 2 free for all attendees
  • A total of 4 days of mind blowing (we kid you not you’ll probably get a headache from all the information) deeply technical talks. No Roadmaps here.
  • Tons of sessions on things like Sencha, Appcelerator, and more so those of you looking at HTML5, will have more than enough to keep you busy.
  • 2 awesome sponsored parties. Monday at the Clocktower grill thanks to On3. Tuesday we’re doing truck-less food trucks in the main conference area thanks to Mixbook.
  • Plus we’ve got drinks sunday evening for the welcome reception. come enjoy a beer and the ‘calm-before-the-storm-of-learning’ with other attendees.
  • A gathering of awesome people from around the world united in doing cool things and sharing what they know. No Divas
  • And of course nearly 50 sessions. covering design, business and development topics.

If that’s not enough, well you should attend another event. Whether you’re bullish on Flex, or  looking to move to a Javascript technology, or a native platform, the minds presenting at 360|Flex,  not to mention the sponsoring companies are the ones to watch and be involved with.

360Flex 2012 – Discover Apache Flex

You’ve heard that Adobe has given the Flex SDK to the Apache Foundation and that its currently a Podling project right? Ok just checking. If you’re curious about what being an Apache project means, or wondering how you can go about participating in the ongoing development of Flex, or just curious how an Apache Foundation project works, we’ve got you covered. Several of the initial commit’ers for the project will be attending 360|Flex, as well as many members of the SPOON project team. They’ll be setting up a “Apache Flex Discovery Room” where you can get the lowdown on the status, get help checking out the source code, and more.

The idea is that there’s a lot of questions being asked about Flex, the future, what being an Apache Project means and more and since so many experts will be one place why not have a dedicated room where attendees can come, get the scoop, get hands-on help getting set up to contribute if they want, etc.

It’s gonna be pretty slick I think to have a room dedicated to the Open Source Flex effort. Whether you want to get active and fix some shit or just want to learn more about it, the

You can quash bugs unless you’re an attendee. Better register now before it’s too late.

360flex 2012 – What do you think of the Apache Flex Logo? Win Lightroom 4

Ok really its less about what you think of it, though you can express that. What we really want is to see how creatively you can represent the new Apache Flex Logo

So we’re gonna do a contest. Adobe has 5 licenses for Lightroom 4 that we get to give away (That’s a $149 prize!).

What you need to do to try and win one is simply tweet your interpretation of the new logo using whatever you like (fruit peels, play-doh, beer labels, whatever you like) to do it with the #360flexlogo hashtag.

The only rule is “Pics or it didn’t happen” you gotta show your work. Oh and the only other rule (sorry) is that this is only open to folks in the US. Sorry Europe, Canada and South America, we’d love to see your interpretations of the logo but we can’t mail the software to you.

Go ahead. tweet your entries. we’ll pick the 5 best interpretations of the logo and post them here. Have at it!

Oh yeah, speaking of 360|Flex :) Have you bought your ticket? Times running out.

360Flex 2012 – Your Chance to shine

In case you missed it, we’ve got some awesome party action lined up for attendees of 360|Flex 2012. Well Welcome reception we mentioned on Sunday, it’s currently not sponsored.

It’d be awesome if we could change that :) it helps a ton when the parties are sponsored by the community. Thanks the Mixbook and On3 we’ve got two covered. One thing we thought might be cool is if a few smaller shops wanted to get in together to sponsor the welcome reception. There’s plenty of room for giving credit and it’d be cool if a few awesome folks/companies welcome attendees of 360|Flex with a cool bash.

If you’re interested drop us a line (info@ 360flex. com) and let us know. there’s no minimum to participate we’ll get a banner made with a logo for everyone who donates. For every donation that helps cover the Welcome reception, we’ll add your graphic (logo, your face, a picture of Pikachu, whatever you like)

We’ve never tried crowdsourcing a party, let’s see how it works.

360Flex 2012 – Still time to volunteer

Time’s running out. We’re still in need of a few volunteers.

Volunteering helps the conference in huge ways. We don’t have a staff to help out, we rely on members of the community who want to help the conference and need a little help getting to the conference.

Hows that work?

well what we look for in volunteers are Flex community folks who need some help getting to the conference. Maybe a free ticket helps make attending the conference easier.

What we need in exchange are folks to help get the sessions recorded, work the registration table and help package the goodie bags.

We need quite a few more volunteers so don’t be shy.

Pretty simple. For more information, check out this post and drop us a line.

360Flex 2012 – Time to Party!

Let’s talk parties. :)

You probably already know, from looking at the schedule, that we’ve got a metric butt load of awesome technical content. But what you might have overlooked (especially if this is your first 360|Flex) is the opportunities for socializing.

With awesome sponsors like On3, Sencha and Mixbook supporting our evening parties on Monday and Tuesday night.

Here’s the breakdown of the fun to be had before and AFTER you fill your brain with more tech talk than you can handle :)

Sunday night: 6pm is our welcome reception. in the hotel foyer area, you can also pick up your badge and goodies if you didn’t come in early for the hands on pre-conference training classes.

Monday Night: Right after the General Session, Sencha is hosting a happy hour in the hotel bar, before the main party starts at the Clock Tower Grill, sponsored by ON3

Tuesday Night: Our long time friends Mixbook are sponsoring a reception in the hotel bar/restaurant area.

Our parties offer a great chance for attendees to decompress after a long day of learning new things. There’s food, beer and soda, and nerds. Oh and usually something to do like PS3 Rockband or pool.

Want your name attached to a party, the Sunday events are still unsponsored, just sayin’, attendees love the people who buy the beer :)

See you in April

360Flex – Android UI and iOS Hands On Training Opportunity.

Did you know we offer hands on training outside the conference? We do, now. :)

We’ve launched 360|HandsOn to offer hands on training built around the same principles as 360|Flex. Small, affordable, and of course awesome. Each class caps at 20 people.

Our first two classes (both in Denver) are focused on mobile, and neither is a beginners course :) Whether you’re looking to go deeper into iOS development or build out your Android app and don’t want it to look like, well most every other Android app, our first two courses are for you.

iOS 201 with our pal Tom Ortega will focus on things you need to know after you’ve built your ‘hello world’. Things like using ARC, building your app with StoryBoards, getting it ready for sale in the App store, and more. 8 Hours packed with real world hands on experience.

Android UI with Dave Smith will focus on something many Android app struggle with. Not looking like an Android app. The course assumes you know your way around the IDE, and the SDK and will cover things like view animations, gestures and multi-touch responses, and using 9-patches, and of course much more.

Each class is 8 hours of hands on goodness, with a professional who’s actually doing these things. We provide lunch and lots of coffee :)

Our goal with these and the many more we’re working on, both one and two day, is to offer hands on training that’s affordable for those of us that don’t have a company paying the bill. Of course, being less expensive doesn’t mean we have to offer lesser quality, which once you’ve attended one of these classes you’ll agree, we don’t scrimp :)

360Flex 2012 – Space at the hotel is running out.

Sitting on the fence about coming to 360|Flex 2012? That’s fine. Well it’s not, but we know you’ll come around sooner or later, hopefully you do it before we sell out.

This post is a Public Service Announcement.

Rooms at the Denver Marriott South are filling up fast. Whether you’re on the fence or just slow to act, get your hotel room before you buy your ticket to the conference. You can cancel the hotel room up to 24 hours before if you need, but once our room block is full, that’s that. you’ll be paying full price for the hotel or having to drive from another hotel. Oh yeah there’s no other hotels within walking distance, and the nearest is across the freeway. So yeah, missing the room block is a big deal.

Not only does missing the room block mean you don’t get to hang out at the conference parties then just take an elevator your your room, but having to stay elsewhere hurts the conference. We need our room block to fill up. Selling our room block out ensures we get the discounts and things we need from the hotel to ensure 360|Flex can keep going.

Book your hotel room now! Even if you’re gonna wait to get the conference ticket. See you in April
