RIAdventure 360 White Christmas? Sure, White Sand Christmas!

RIAdventure 360 is gonna rock.  With Ted Patrick, Ryan Stewart, Doug McCune, Faisal Abid and Sam Rivello speaking, it’s obviously gonna rock.  (Don’t know these people somehow, go check out the speaker page to get their bios.)  The question is more: Are you going to be there?

One thing that is obvious is that the conference is in between to major U.S. holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas.  There’s no point in trying to avoid the subject since it’s fact.  However, instead of avoiding it, we’d like to do the opposite and bring it into focus.

For many parts of the US, this summer plain sucked.  Sunshine was rare and the thought of Fall and Winter fast approaching isn’t a pleasant thought for some.  Early December isn’t going to be filled with a surprise burst of 75 F temperatures, with blue skies and waters of about the same temperature.  It’s gonna be dark and it’ll likely be cold.

We know that people work out their holiday schedules years in advance.  Alternating between one set of parents to the other is the norm.  Or always going to Aunt Bess is the way Christmas/Turkey Day is spent.  If that’s the case, by all means, go.  Don’t let us disrupt a time honored tradition.

However, what if there’s flexibility in your plans?  If you can spend some time with your significant other and maybe the kids alone, while learning about stuff that’ll make you a more valueable employee (or indie developer), why not?  The cruise when all costs are said and done is not much more costly than many other conferences.  Though, how many shows let you spend quality time with your family, enjoy an early Christmas in paradise and still learn about the nitty-gritty of the RIA space?

Only one show does: RIAdventure 360.  Therefore, we’re making the case for you to head on home and chat it over with the family.  We did.  You can even do what we did, which is ask the extended family to join us.  Send them this link so they can learn all about the cruise.  No sense in not making it a party.  This way, there’s no reason to feel bad if Aunt Bess decides not to come.  She had her chance to make up her mind.

The RIAdventure Cruise conference is gonna be like no even ever before.  It’s a concept that will evolve over the years and only get better.  The thing you have to ask yourself is do you want to be there at the start?  Or do you want to be a latecomer and hop on the bandwagon after it’s been through a few rounds?

We’re all trailblazers and we’re willing to bet you are too.  In that case, work out the plans.  Get things in order and we’ll see ya aboard, matey!  Head on over and buy your tickets now!

RIAdventure360 – More Speakers!

Josh, Tom and I have been working over time to get the Cruise locked down. Namely, selecting and notifying speakers!

We’ve added three more names to the list of speakers for the cruise. ‘Speakers’ is a bit of a misnomer in this case though. Sure each will have a session slot to present to the group, but really these are the heavy weights that attendees of the cruise will be spending 7 days with, talking about Adobe and RIAs, and even a little non Adobe awesomeness (Android anyone? and I’m sure Tom and I can weigh in on iDevice stuff if it goes there).

Alongside Ryan and Doug, we’re happy to have Sam Rivello (360|Flex alum), Faisal Abid, and …. drum roll…. Ted Patrick!

Yeah that’s right! Not only has Ted risen from the platform evangelist ashes like the phoenix, but he’ll be joining us on the cruise to talk all things, Adobe RIA. He and Ryan will be kicking the cruise off with an awesome keynote.

360flex – Some stuff to help make the cruise even better(er)!!!

First for those that are thinking about spending a week with us as well as some of the big name, big brain RIA crowd, we wanted to get some community involvement on what topics we should talk about.

So we created a uservoice site just for the cruise. Even if you can’t make it, throw out some topic ideas. The idea is that on the second conference day, we’re going to be semi barcamp and just openthe floor to break out discussions. Give us some ideas. Since we’re all in one room, I’ll likely video both days, so even if you can’t make it, you might get some nuggets of wisdom from the video :D

Also for those that definitely ARE going, we know that some of you might not have a Significant other or maybe they can’t make it. Since boats are all Double Occupancy rooms, we thought we’d set up a wiki for attendees to see if they could find a bunk mate. Nothing fancy, the site explains it.

The wiki is where we’ll also set up dinner plans, etc in advance.

Take a look, help shape the cruise/conference, it’s gonna be hella fun, I can’t wait!!360flex

First two speakers announced for RIAdventure 360 – Ryan Stewart and Doug McCune

When we decided to do this conference, we realized it couldn’t just be business as usual.  The likelihood of getting corporate buyoff on a traditional conference being held on a cruise was unlikely.  Even though the cost would be no more than a traditional conference, someone up the management chain would have a tizzy when they saw the NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) name on the expense report.

Therefore, we decided to take a different approach.  Rather than have rehashed presos and talks about specific products, what if we took it to a higher level?  What if we talked about the future of RIA?  Who would we want leading that discussion?

Two people immediately jumped into my mind when I asked myself that question.  I quickly hit them up on instant messenger to get their initial thoughts.  They caught onto the concept gave a tentative yes.  Now, after checking their schedules, they’ve given the thumbs up to participating.

We’re happy to announce that Doug McCune and Ryan Stewart will be joining us as the first two speakers at the RIAdventure 360 conference.

Doug McCune is one of those amazing tinkerers.  Everyone and their grandma can hatch an idea.  Very few people have the skillset to hatch an idea and make it a reality.  Even fewer have the knowledge and abilities to make it a reality in a matter of days.  Doug is one of those people.  We’re looking forward to hearing how he leverages other people’s work to accomplish new and amazing things in a short amount of time.  He’ll also give input on where RIA should go to enable him to do even greater things.

Ryan Stewart was once THE RIA blogger.  Before Adobe wisely swept him up, Ryan was crisscrossing the country to find all the coolest players in the RIA Space.  If you wanted to know about what was the latest and greatest was in the RIA Space, you just had to hit up Ryan’s blog and you’d be in the know.  We’re offering Ryan a chance to return to his roots.  Adobe has narrowed his focus, but we know that the entire RIA space still runs through his veins.  Once Ryan puts his finger back on that RIA pulse, it’ll be interesting to see what he finds and where he thinks things are heading.

Stay tuned to the speakers page to find out the latest about our speakers.  If you have an idea for a speaker, don’t hesitate to contact us to let us know.

360Flex – No west coast show, but how about a cruise?

RIA_ad

Tom and I have partnered with Josh Cyr (organizer of the last RIAdventure cruise) to bring RIAdventure360!

We’re going to be spending 7 days in early December cruising around the Western Caribbean  talking about RIAs and the future of the internet.

We’re getting a few speakers together to sort of help guide discussions. Since this is a cruise and all that, we don’t want it to be all structured and formal like a conference. What we’re going for is a more barcamp style event. The plan is we’ll get together during the 2 ‘at sea’ days, we’ve got a room with A/V and all that, there’ll be grub too of course and we’ll pick some topics and talk.

Our hope is the discussion ranges from the future of RIAs, mobile, server side technologies, whether Flash will ever be on the iPhone, etc :D

Stay tuned for more, but we’re locking some awesome folks down as our “speakers”

It’s a pretty sweet deal too, I might add, the price roughly works out to what you’d spend to attend most other conferences, and this is a cruise! Check out the ship and the cruise plan, then Register!
