360Flex 2011 – Want to share a ride to/from the Airport?

We’re trying something we’ve done before, a bit differently. Previously we’ve set up an external wiki and published the link for Ride and Room sharing, and pretty much left it alone. This time, we found a simple little WordPress plugin to give us a basic wiki within the site. So…

If you’d like to arrange to split cab fare or super shuttle with anyone else arriving/departing 360|Flex 2011. Check out the Ride Share Wiki here.

Don’t forget, before you can share a ride, you need to be registered to attend :) Get your ticket here!

360Flex – Hotel and Location locked in!

Check it out! We’ve updated the Hotel and Travel page!

We scored a pretty awesome deal I think. The hotel is right by the lightrail so getting to downtown Denver is easy, we got in-room internet comped, and we got a slightly reduced rate if you’re willing to buy your conference ticket and hotel as a bundle.

Remember, it’s important we fill the room block, otherwise we write a check for nothing but unfilled rooms, that sucks big time!

Rooms are $165/night, In-Room internet is normally $13 a day, so you’re saving $36 automatically. If you buy the room/ticket bundle, you save an additional $10/night

The hotel is awesome, has a great (and nice sized) bar, we’ll be the main event in the hotel so if you were in Seattle and remember how awesome it felt to have an entire hotel of Flex developers, that’s what this’ll be like.

The hotel also has a free shuttle to get you to any number of awesome restaurants, and even a mall with an Apple store if you need a video adapter or power plug (just sayin’ it happens).

The Room block isn’t huge! Even if you haven’t booked your conference pass, go book your room. When the room block is full, the regular rate for this hotel is $199+ a night. Don’t miss out and have to drive or shuttle over to the hotel! Grab your room now!

If you want us to take care of booking your room, grab one of our Ticket/hotel room bundles! We’ve got a limited number of them, and you save an extra $10/night on the hotel fare. Register now for the only 360|Flex of 2011, which means the best event for the Flex/AIR community of 2011 is a one time deal. Don’t sit at your desk at work, tweeting how you wish you were in Denver with us! Be here! Register now!

360Flex – Speaker – Jonathan Campos

Jonathan Campos is doing an awesome Sunday hands-On session covering AIR for Android. If you’re looking to get into Mobile, you don’t want to miss this half-day session covering everything you need to know to build kick ass Android apps with AIR.

As always the Sunday Hands-On training is included in the price of 360|Flex. Unlike most events we don’t think you should pay for additional training!

Q: How long have you been working with Flex?

A: I’ve been working with Fx since the beginning of Fx2. And I haven’t wanted to look back since.

I don’t think many Flex developers, ever look back. Flex offers too much great stuff to bother looking for alternatives.

Q: What do you like most about Flex?

A: What I like most about Fx is the new skinning model. No longer do I need to make a hundred crazy custom components. Just one and skin it to interact and look however I want.

Yeah I think Flex 4 adds a ton of great features to make building Flex Apps even better. Skinning is a huge plus!

Q: What 1 session are you most excited about seeing at 360|Flex DC?

A: I’m definitely going to hit up Ben’s Push Button 101 presentation after mine on Sunday. Wanting to see more of that!

Yeah we’re really excited to see more Flex folks get into gaming. There’s so much to be done there, even in non game applications. Nate Beck is also doing a session around PBE, worth checking out!

Q: What about 360|Flex DC are you most excited about?

A: I’m always a fan of the late night drinking and geeking out. I love talking about Flex with my good friend Jack (Daniels).

LOL I think Jack has a lot of friends at 360|Flex. Should be a great time!

Q: Do you prefer ninjas or robots?

A: Robots. Definitely. Because when they get better we can make Ninja Robots. And when they realize they disobey the 3 laws our demise will just be a bit faster.

Yeah i fear the day we face Ninja Robots. That’s truly the end of us :)

Q: What is one thing you’d like to see improved in the Flex Framework?

A: Performance and mobile development. I know it isn’t always easy to performance optimize, but keep trying! I am extremely happy with what can be done with skinning, so the only thing left is to make it run better.

Agreed, I don’t think there’s ever a time to stop working on performance improvements. There’s always something that can work faster, better or smarter than it currently does.

Q: Is there someone you’re hoping to see at 360|Flex DC?

A: As always I need to hang out with my buddies Nate Beck and Jun Heider.

Awesome! Both great guys! I can’t wait to see what Nate has planned in his ongoing battle with Doug! So long as it doesn’t get taken too far :)

Q: Lastly, what would you tell someone who was on the fence or hadn’t heard (I know, they’re out there though) of 360|Flex to get them to come?

A: This is the best place for in depth Flex knowledge. There are lots of great conferences out there, but this is the one where the A listers really open up and share the knowledge. And if you are new to the community, this is an easy way to get plugged in – just join up with the group for drinks after the main stuff is over.

We couldn’t agree more! There’s a lot of options out there, but we think 360|Flex is the ONLY choice when looking to elevate your game. If you want to leave  at the end of the conference more excited than ever about Flex and AIR. 360|Flex is the place! Register now! Don’t forget to stay at the Hilton!!!

360Flex – Speaker Ben Stucki

We’ve known Ben Stucki forever, or at least it seems like it! He’s been a great supporter of 360|Flex, especially when it comes to advice on making the event better!

Ben is a great developer, who’s finally launched his own business, and is working on making awesome products with Flex and AIR. I can’t wait to be toasting his success! We need more developers building awesome tools with Flex and AIR.

Q: How long have you been working with Flex?

A: Since Flex 2 Alpha. So, forever.

Yeah Flex 1.x SO doesn’t count. That was a nightmare!

Q: What do you like most about Flex?

A: When a client asks, “Can we do X?”, I get to say yes

That’s definitely an awesome feeling. It’s always great when you don’t have to try to explain why the client should try a different approach, but can simply say, “Sure, that’s totally doable”

Q: What 1 session are you most excited about seeing at 360|Flex DC?

A: Antonio Holguin-Your AIR App is Boring. I’m working on some AIR apps that I don’t want to be boring, so I’m looking forward to this one.

Yeah, my only complaint with Flex and AIR is that it’s easy to make unattractive apps. I should know, I made plenty of those :)

Q: What about 360|Flex DC are you most excited about?

A: You mean besides the awesome sessions, parties, and socializing? I’m pretty excited about the music going on Tuesday during lunch. It sounds like there might be a few surprises too (It’s actually Monday night, LOL)

Damn straight. It’s implied that the sessions, parties, socializing and all around awesomeness are spoken for :)

Q: Do you prefer ninjas or robots?

A: I think I prefer robots. I could teach them how to play soccer and enter them in one of those robot soccer competitions. Ninjas don’t even play sports – unless killing is a sport, and then they always win

I think Ninjas play ninja star baseball, but it’s tough since the ninja stars stick in the bats. But yeah Robots seem to be really good at soccer, who knew?

Q: What is one thing you’d like to see improved in the Flex Framework?

A: Well if I could improve only one thing, I’d probably just start from scratch instead. We could call it Reflex. :)

I like that name! Has a nice ring to it! ( By the way there’s a session on something called Reflex Wednesday at 2:50 )

Q: Is there someone you’re hoping to see at 360|Flex DC?

A: Clients for my new agency, Digital Analog LLC. We’re growing fast.

Awesome! congrats on going it alone and starting a business, we love seeing the Flex Community grow and become stronger.

Q: Lastly, what would you tell someone who was on the fence or hadn’t heard (I know, they’re out there though) of 360|Flex to get them to come?

A: What are you crazy? If you’re just starting, this is where you learn. If you’ve been learning, this is where you become a pro. If you’re looking for a job or need a position filled, this is where you make it happen. Go. Signup. Now!
