360|Flex “Find a Tom Replacement” Contest

360|Flex San Jose 2010 will be the last 360|Flex with me (Tom Ortega) helping behind the helm. The long explanation as to why I’m leaving can be found on my personal blog. The short version is because conferences just really aren’t my thing. I love all you attendees very much. You will always have a special place in my heart. I know that 360|Flex will continue to grow and become more successful. However, I’ll be honest. Conferences were never part of any long term plan of mine. While John has grown to realize that conferences are his thing, I’ve come to realize the opposite.

What does this mean for 360|Conferences? Head over to the corp blog to find out.

More importantly, what does this mean for 360|Flex? Hopefully, it means fresh blood and a fresh new mind behind the curtain. This will likely be a good thing. I’d like to kid myself and say that I’m *really* important to the success of this show, but I’m probably not.

If we look at my old Flex User Group, Silvafug, we see a nice thing. I helped grow it into one of the more successful and influential Flex User Groups. I split the group into a North and South version right before I left. Now, Radley and Keith, the guys running each respective edition, are taking the group in directions I would have never dreamed. It just proves that if something’s a good idea, people will step up and make it succeed.

The nice thing about 360|Flex is that John’s not going anywhere. Like I said, John’s realized that conferences are something he greatly loves. John’s also a great “doer”. Back during the first 360|Flex, Ted and I gave John the nickname of “The Hammer”. No, it wasn’t for his mad dance style or rap skills, but rather because he’d ride your case if something wasn’t done that you signed up to do.

That being said, if you’re gonna be the one to step up and fill my not-so-big shoes (I wear a size 10.5), you’re gonna need to be prepared to help John take 360|Flex to the next level. You’re gonna need to bring your “A” game everyday, because John does. If you try to slide by with a “B” or below, he’ll call you out.

We’re gonna brand this edition of 360|Flex as the “Farewell to Tom Tour”.  We’ll whip up a cute graphic and have it up after we finish 360|MAX.  The San Jose shows ALWAYS sell out.  With it being the Farewell to Tom Tour *and* Adobe having big news, you better register NOW.  Sponsors, we have the first draft of our sponsor packet for you to peruse.  See you in San Jose!

360Flex needs a logo!

I Put the call out over twitter and it occurred to me, short of attending our events or at least getting our stickers, someone might not know what we’ve had before to get an idea of what we like. So here’s a little graphical history of 360|Flex events. These are all approved and used designs for the conference so should be a good indicator of our taste :)

360|Flex The First None, we had no logo.
360|Flex Seattle 360flex_logo_with_dates
360|Flex Atlanta atl_bling_150atl_peach_150
360|Flex Europe 306|Flex Italy
360|Flex San Jose 2008 360Flex_SanJose_Logo_002-Date
360|Flex Indy 360flex-Indy-Logo

So that’s what we’ve had. Our basic need is something that doesn’t take up a lot of space, can be used against any background for the most part, and would look killer on on a sticker.

This is a purely crowd sourced effort, the more the merrier to participate, we’ll accept the best, and give props to all. The need is, well. Now. We went live and tickets are on sale so we need logo pretty quick.

Thanks, and may the force be with you all.

360Flex Next – San Jose March 7-10th, 2010

Yup, that’s right! We’ve selected the date and the place.  March 7 to 10, 2010 in San Jose.

Our friends at eBay and Paypal are hosting us again, and it’s gonna rock! We’ll be opening the call for papers shortly, so start thinking up your topic and bring your a-game. You’ll be required to mark your session as “done before” or “new for 360|Flex”.  Yup, you better believe that’ll affect your likelihood of being accepted. :)

That said, get ready! Last time we had over 120 submissions to speak! We can only accept 30ish, so come correct :)

Also if that date seems to resonate with you, it should, there’s gonna be big news from Adobe around that time. 360|Flex will be the place to be to be in on the news, and (of course) the party.

Feel free to register now! The first 100 tickets are $499. We’re going to have more big news in the next day or two about 360|Flex.   Get your tickets on early before it’s too late.  San Jose has sold out every 360|Flex show and we don’t expect this to be different, especially since the West Coast didn’t get a show in 2009!

Remember, you can register for RIAdventure, and get a free pass to 360|Flex San Jose 2010!
