360|Flex “Find a Tom Replacement” Contest

360|Flex San Jose 2010 will be the last 360|Flex with me (Tom Ortega) helping behind the helm. The long explanation as to why I’m leaving can be found on my personal blog. The short version is because conferences just really aren’t my thing. I love all you attendees very much. You will always have a special place in my heart. I know that 360|Flex will continue to grow and become more successful. However, I’ll be honest. Conferences were never part of any long term plan of mine. While John has grown to realize that conferences are his thing, I’ve come to realize the opposite.
What does this mean for 360|Conferences? Head over to the corp blog to find out.
More importantly, what does this mean for 360|Flex? Hopefully, it means fresh blood and a fresh new mind behind the curtain. This will likely be a good thing. I’d like to kid myself and say that I’m *really* important to the success of this show, but I’m probably not.
If we look at my old Flex User Group, Silvafug, we see a nice thing. I helped grow it into one of the more successful and influential Flex User Groups. I split the group into a North and South version right before I left. Now, Radley and Keith, the guys running each respective edition, are taking the group in directions I would have never dreamed. It just proves that if something’s a good idea, people will step up and make it succeed.
The nice thing about 360|Flex is that John’s not going anywhere. Like I said, John’s realized that conferences are something he greatly loves. John’s also a great “doer”. Back during the first 360|Flex, Ted and I gave John the nickname of “The Hammer”. No, it wasn’t for his mad dance style or rap skills, but rather because he’d ride your case if something wasn’t done that you signed up to do.
That being said, if you’re gonna be the one to step up and fill my not-so-big shoes (I wear a size 10.5), you’re gonna need to be prepared to help John take 360|Flex to the next level. You’re gonna need to bring your “A” game everyday, because John does. If you try to slide by with a “B” or below, he’ll call you out.
We’re gonna brand this edition of 360|Flex as the “Farewell to Tom Tour”. We’ll whip up a cute graphic and have it up after we finish 360|MAX. The San Jose shows ALWAYS sell out. With it being the Farewell to Tom Tour *and* Adobe having big news, you better register NOW. Sponsors, we have the first draft of our sponsor packet for you to peruse. See you in San Jose!
