360Flex – Side Project circus

A few days ago, a great conversation got started on twitter by @jimcheng, @visualrinse, and @bobjim (All of whom, you should be following if you’re not) about side projects and a way to complete them with help, particularly at 360|Flex. Tom and I think it’s an awesome idea! We love it when 360|Flex can help projects grow and become complete.

Chad sent some basic guidelines, so I’ve listed them below for discussion. The overall strategy thinking is this.

Something like a mini ignite at the beginning of the conference to vote on projects (This might turn into using uservoice ahead of time to make things more streamlined, not sure)

During the conference there’s room for working on this project.

At the end, of the conference, much like the Charity Code Jam does, we’d see how the side project(s) had progressed.

So tell us what you think of these guidelines, the idea in general, etc. Let’s get some conversations going around this

  1. The project should not be for an organization. At least not directly. Ideally it is a concept the developer/designer wants to create for him or herself but hasn’t gotten to finish it due to time constraints. This isn’t meant to supplant a charity code jam.
  2. The project should have a tech spec or user story already written for it. Ideally, wireframes or a prototype UI have been created as well.
  3. The project should be a true deliverable RIA or experience, not an API or other type of code library. Creating an API or code library to complete the project is acceptable.
  4. The project will first be blogged about on the 360|Flex site. No other public announcement of the development commencing or launch can precede it.
  5. The team producing the work will be listed as co-contributors, with the idea originator getting lead credit.
  6. Flex 4 and Flash Catalyst should be used for the tooling.

Remember, the first 100 tickets are on sale now for $499, and if you’re gonna be at MAX, take advantage of our “We love MAX” price of $250. You have to be attending MAX to get the price, but since we’ll be in the community Pavilion, the expo only pass will do just fine if you can’t swing the full price!

Don’t miss out, this 360|Flex is gonna be great!

360Flex – The Logo!

We got three awesome submissions for logos. Mad props to Chad, Anthony, and Garth!

In the end we went with Garth’s design, because well who doesn’t like 8bit space invaders?

Anthony did our 360|iDev logo and it rocks, but this time we just had to go old skool :)

We’ll whip up some speaker versions, etc soon, but this is it! The official 360|Flex Logo!

360Flex – Going to MAX? Save on 360Flex San Jose

360MAX_LogoWe’ve done this before and it only makes sense to do it again, especially in these still a bit troubling economic times.

As you may know tickets went on sale for 360|Flex San jose 2010 a few days ago, well if you’re going to be at Adobe MAX in LA this year, if you stop by the 360|MAX Unconference you can pick up a ticket to 360|Flex for 50% off. That’s $250 for the 4 days of Flex/AS/AIR awesomeness you know and love.Oh and we’ve already started working on the Charity Code Jam with Ali, so be prepared to write some code for a good cause!

The first 100 tickets to 360|Flex are $499, but at MAX, while the unconference is running you can find Tom and I and buy a ticket for $250. 5 minutes after MAX ends on Wednesday, sale is over, Saturday night before MAX, sale hasn’t started. You can’t buy online, you have to find Tom or myself. Don’t worry we’re easy to spot, we’ll be sitting at 360|MAX all three days.

If you haven’t RSVP’ed for 360|MAX you should, let us know you’re gonna drop by!

Not going to MAX? Better register now, the first 100 will probably go pretty quick, and really, is there a reason to wait? Register now! Save some coin!

RIAdventure Cruise schedule at a glance

We’ve been working with our awesome speakers to come up with some ideas for the cruise. We’ve also got a uservoice set up so people can submit discussion topics. That’s still open by the way.

In the meantime, here’s what we’ve got right now. If it looks like a ton of awesome discussions, sitting around a table having a drink/meal, you’d be right, that’s exactly what it is.

RIAdventure isn’t a conference in the ‘sit around in sessions’ sense (we’ve got some sessions, don’t get me wrong) it’s more of what is typically the best part of conferences, the conversations in the hallways.

We’ve got a great group of speakers (is that even the right term?) that will be engaging in incredible conversations every night of the cruise. We’re not limited to the topics on the schedule, those are merely starting points.

Download the schedule see what you think! The cruise is gonna rock!!

Remember, registering for RIAdventure, also includes a ticket to 360|Flex San Jose (March 7-10, 2010), which always sells out!
