360Flex – Session preview – Protect your app and your time

Simplified Logic has been a long time sponsor of 360|Flex, and for that we thank them. That said, Andrew wouldn’t be presenting if we didn’t think the topic made sense for our attendees. Protecting your code is something every developer or company has thought of at some point. The IP inside the apps is important. These days it’s important to make your app appealing and not hard to use for your legitimate customers, but it’d be nice if you could make sure usage was paid for.
That’s where Nitro-LM comes in. Without spoiling the presentation (which is a must to attend if you’re trying to figure out how to license your app) Nitro-LM allows you to offer licensing options for your software that allows you to manage who has access, etc.

I’ve seen the demo, it’s awesome! Don’t miss Andrew’s preso!

Nitro-LM is a unique solution for implementing software protection. Licensing is often the first impression a customer has of your software.  You want to control the use of your software, but don’t want to come across as “BIG BROTHER”.  In this session, you will learn how to custom-tailor a non-intrusive end-to-end licensing user experience for your customers. We will discuss how to facilitate in-software communication and feedback between you and your customers using the Nitro-LM event notification system. Advanced features such as remote preferences, bundling suites of software into license pools, and encryption of Flex/AIR modules for source code protection will also be covered.

360Flex Indy Schedule As mostly final

There’s an OPEN slot that we’re working with a potential sponsor to fill in, but otherwise this is pretty much as “Final” as our schedule for Indy is gonna get. Take a look!

If you’re still on the fence about attending the best Flex/AIR conference in the world (Really, ask anyone!), there’s somethign wrong with you :)

I’m working on the database for the session survey tool, and in re-reading all these awesome topics, I’m awestruck, at the incredible knowledge and community that’s going to be together under one roof in May. Each 360|Flex rocks, but this is the only one in 2009, and I promise you’ll be sorry you missed it.

Register now! if you miss 360|Flex you’ll have to attend one of those other conferences with an ‘RIA track’ and miss out on some truly awesome content that’s timely and fresh!

Oh and the hotel room block is almost full. Don’t bus, taxi, walk to the conference. It’s worth it to be in teh same building, if nothing else, you’ve got less distance to cover after the parties :)

360|Flex Indy presents Ryan Campbell: OpenFlux and Flex 4

One thing that I love about Flex is how it’s merely a framework built atop the Adobe Flash Platform.  It’s a framework of components that is very useful in building applications.  However, it’s just that: a framework.  A team of Adobeans (who were known as Macromedians, at the time) got together and said, “This is what we feel is the best framework for bulding components.”

Frameworks are like cars though.  Some are feature rich, allow you to carry 7 passengers and refridgerate drinks in the center console, ala the nicely name Ford Flex.  Others however are bare boned, carry only the driver and are built for speed, like an Indy race car.  Now, I’m not going to say which car represents the Flex Framework and which represents OpenFlux.

OpenFlux was originally designed as a solution to an area the Flex Framework was weak: Reusable component architecture.  Flex has always been good at allowing you to share components among different apps.  What OpenFlux allows you to do is share code among different components.  Flex 4 is also attacking this same problem.  This question now is: Does Flex 4 make OpenFlux obsolete?

Here’s Ryan’s description for his session that answers that very question:

Now that Flex 4 is getting closer, find out what that means for OpenFlux. Learn when is best to use OpenFlux and when is best to use Flex 4 for custom components. I’ll show the differences and similarities between the two architectures giving you a better understanding of both frameworks and how well they can actually work together. You’ll also learn what’s new with OpenFlux, including virtualized lists, and what our future plans are, including pure-AS3-only support.

Anything that makes you more productive is a huge win in today’s tough times.  This is but one of the many sessions that will teach you such time saving techniques.  At $480 per ticket ($550 if you don’t hurry), the Return on Investment will be quick.  It’s sessions like this that make people come up to us on End of Day Monday to say things like, “Today alone was worth the price of admission” and “I’ve learned more time saving and money earning techniques today than I ever have on my own.”  Register now to secure you spot for the only 2009 360|Flex show.

360Flex – How Not to Code Flex Apps

Jeff Tapper will be presenting on ‘How not to code flex apps”

It’s easy for many to dictate how one should or should not code, but when Jeff Tapper says it, you should listen. Brothah has been around the block a few times.

Having worked on hundreds of various flex applications, I’ve had a chance to see all sorts of bad practices in use.  In this session, we will look at several mistakes: common ones, amusing ones, ones which got someone fired, and talk through ways of making you a better coder, or at least one who makes a better caliber of mistakes.

Jeff’s bringing his years of experience to 360|Flex Indy to share what here’s learned. Don’t miss Jeff’s session, it’d suck if you made one of those mistakes he’s seen people get fired for, wouldn’t it?

360Flex – Quash bugs, help Charities

Part of what makes 360|Flex conferences so special for many people is the chance to get outside their normal flow and do something they normally wouldn’t. The Flex Charity Code Jam has existed since 360|Flex Seattle and has been the love child of Ali Daniali, He’s a rock star, and some one (Adobe are you listening) should hire him to do this stuff all over. Charity + Flex == AWESOME.

This year for 360|Flex Indy, Leif Wells is upping the bar on awesome! He’s leading the Adobe Bug Quash effort on Sunday May 17th. Adobe’s first Bug Quash was last weekend, in Seattle, bringing people together from all over to reduce the bug count in the open Source Flex SDK.

Tom and I are really excited that this will be taking place during 360|Flex Indy, what better place to help fix Flex SDK bugs, than the largest gathering (don’t be fooled by imitators, LOL) of Flex developers in the world.

We know the Bug Quash is happening, we just have to tell Leif which room. Once we’ve got more details we’ll make sure to post them. Make sure you’re in town Sunday. Between free Pre-Conference training, Bug Quashing and welcome receptions, Sunday’s a busy day.

Don’t miss out! you won’t get a better collection of experts together in one place than 360|Flex. Missing this conference would be a sin! I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere! Register NOW
